HypnoBirthing®
    The Mongan Method
Pain Management in Labour

Silhouette of a pregnant woman

Any medication -whether to induce labour, relieve pain or anaethetize - will cross the placenta and affect the baby. As a parent would you choose to give drugs to your newborn baby?

Research has shown that babies born to mothers who had epidural anaesthesia, tend to demonstrate more trembling, irritability and immature motor activitiy on the first day compared to babies whose mothers did not take medication. It was not until the 5th day that the 2 groups of babies exhibited similiar behaviour.

Medication will suppress your body's natural efforts to work with your bodies contractions, this reduces muscle tone and prolongs labour, which in turn leads to increased administration of drugs to speed labour up and more chemical pain relief is required - a vicious cycle.

There is an alternative to drugs - HypnoBirthing® - The Mongan Method. The HypnoBirthing® programme will teach you and your partner to use self hypnosis to be in control, while enjoying an easy, comfortable and drug-free birth.

Benefits of HypnoBirthing®:

  • Eliminate fear-tension-pain cycle before,during and after birthing;
  • Eliminate or greatly reduce the need for chemical pain killers;
  • Shorten the first stage of labour by several hours.
  • Eliminate fatigue during labour and feel fresh, awake and energised for the actual birth.
  • Eliminate risk of hyperventilation from "shallow" breathing methods.
  • Promote a special bond between you, your baby and your birth companion.
  • Enjoy a more rapid post-natal recovery.
  • Experience a beautiful, peaceful birthing experience as nature intended.
  • Create a more integral role for your birth companion

  • Relaxation and self-hypnosis techniques to eliminate the fear and tension that cause long labour and pain, replacing them with confidence, calm and comfort.
  • Other techniques to produce a shorter, more comfortable labour.
  • How to create and control your body's own natural anaesthesia.
  • The sources of the myths that pain must accompany normal birthing.
  • Why women in other cultures have birthings almost entirely free of discomfort.
  • How the mother's body is designed to work in neuromuscular harmony with nature throughout labour.
  • To practice deep relaxation during and between uterine surges.
  • The importance of prenatal and perinatal bonding.
